City government wants developers to pay for additional development rights (2014/03/18)

The Taipei City government plans to introduce a new transfer of development rights system that it believes will bring greater fairness to an often abused system. By creating a building bulk bank, it will force developers to pay into a public fund if they desire to purchase extra floor space for development projects.

Tourist numbers steady after price hike at Kaohsiung’s Former British Consulate at Takao (2014/03/18)

The National Palace Museum’s decision to raise admission prices from July has drawn much criticism. But if the ticket price hike at Kaohsiung’s Former British Consulate at Takao last week serves as a barometer of expected impact, tourist numbers are unlikely to vary heavily.

KMT Central Committee member Sean Lien visited party headquarters today to fill out paperwork for the upcoming Taipei mayoral election. While there Lien said he’s eager to debate the opposition frontrunner Ko Wen-je.

Interior Ministry moves to compensate workers for holidays that fall on weekends (2014/03/17)

The Interior Ministry has decided that when holidays fall on weekends, an extra day of paid vacation shall be provided on the preceding or following work day. The change starts from 2015 and was made following an outcry over the particularly low number of holidays workers were set to face next year.

Alleged apartment trashers caught in Tainan (2014/03/17)

Two Hong Kong teenagers who allegedly wreaked havoc on the rented apartments and hotels they stayed in are now in detention. Among the many acts the women are accused of: using lipstick to write swear words on walls, backing up toilets with cigarettes, and strewing food leftovers and sanitary pads across living areas and bathrooms.

National Palace Museum decides to let foreigners foot the bill of higher overhead costs (2014/03/17)

The National Palace Museum will soon introduce a two-tiered pricing system that will lead to significantly higher prices for foreigners compared to Taiwanese nationals. In July it plans to raise the price of general admission for foreigners from NT$160 to NT$250. Tickets for Taiwanese nationals will be lowered by NT$10 to NT$150.
