Ou’s resignation ends a four-and-a-half year stint as head of the high-speed rail company. He is best known for leading the company out of a financial crisis after he took over in 2009 and making it profitable in 2011. But his reputation has been hurt more recently, at least with the public, by fare hikes and a series of train delays.

President Ma Ying-jeou is urging members of his Cabinet to hit the airwaves to let people know his administration’s plans and achievements. Officials, however, expressed reservations about the potential pitfalls of appearing on sometimes unpredictable political talk shows and call-in shows.

As a fly ball traveled to the wall, the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters outfielder pretended to make a catch, fooling the runner, who only advanced to third when he should have been able to make it home.
