Year of the Horse Lantern Festival expected to draw up to 7 million visitors (2014/02/06)

Organizers of this year’s Lantern Festival in Nantou County will begin final tests of the many lanterns on display on Friday. But preliminary checks have already attracted many photographers eager to get an early look at the horse themed lights. Some 6 to 7 million people are expected to visit the festival, which opens on Feb. 14.

The festival’s 30-ton centerpiece is patterned after a galloping horse from ancient times. Visually stunning, it constantly changes color.

The 23-meter-tall lantern towers higher than any lantern in the festival’s history. Its lighting is eco-friendly, using more than 200,000 LEDs.

Though the festival doesn’t open until Feb. 14, its venue is already drawing many photographers hopeful of getting early shots of the displays and posting them online.

One of this year’s highlights is a special aboriginal lantern section.

The aboriginal section has 14 lanterns, and many of them are bigger and taller than street lights. There are lights from all 14 indigenous tribes, because every tribe is represented in Nantou County.

The Nantou County government estimates that this year’s lantern festival will draw between 6 million and 7 million visitors.

There will be 80 shuttle buses a day going to and from the Wuri high speed rail station. Another 60 shuttle buses will run between the festival and the Taiwan Railways Yuanlin Station, and there will be several public buses from Taichung, about 2 to 300 a day.

With many transportation options available, the Nantou County government is ready for the crowds expected to descend on Zhongxin New Village for this year’s lantern show.

南投燈會

台灣燈會今年移師到南投中興新村舉辦，主辦單位預計明天進行試點燈，不過現在每晚的校對、調燈測試，已經有許多攝影迷出現。這次燈會，南投縣政府預估，將能吸引6、700萬人，到場參觀。

重達30公噸的主燈，以擅於奔跑登高的古代名駒為設計重點，強調聲光效果，顏色不時變換。

主燈23公尺高，是歷年之最。燈光效果則以「綠能環保」為特色，超過20萬顆以上的LED燈。

一年一度的台灣燈會，已有不少攝影迷遠道而來，希望能搶先一步拍到照片，將主燈照片PO上網。

這次燈會，將設有原住民燈區等特色燈區。

原住民燈區有14盞燈，很多盞燈都比路燈高比路燈大，14個族群的燈都有，因為南投14個原住民族群都有。

南投縣政府，估計將吸引600到700萬人。

烏日高鐵站每天有80輛接駁車，在那邊來回跑，在台鐵員林站每天有60輛接駁車，在台中市有很多公車，一天都有2、300班。

不只公車加班，還加派了接駁車，南投縣政府做好準備，迎接即將來臨的大批賞燈人潮。
