1,600 paper pandas put on display in front of Taipei City Hall (2014/02/27)

Visitors to Taipei City Hall are in for a big surprise – 1,600 paper pandas will be on display in front of the hall starting from Saturday. Today the pandas had a trial run.

Children bend over to arrange the pandas that are being put on display. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin led a group of 150 kids during this exciting event.

Within about 15 minutes, 1,600 paper pandas are in place. The pandas dominate the square in front of City Hall. This sea of pandas is the work of French designer and artist Paulo Grangeon.

This exhibition represents the last 1,600 pandas that remain in the world. Another word on the Formosan black bears that we’re exhibiting here: there are only 200 left and we really need to deal with the situation.

Much like a real panda, these paper ones are in need of protection. Mayor Hau says the city is ready to act if the skies change.

If the weather is poor and it rains, we have emergency response and evacuation policies in place. These plans were made in advance.

The exhibit lasts from Saturday to March 9. After that, the pandas will be moved to the National Theater Concert Hall where they will be on display from March 14 to 30.

貓熊展開幕

台北市這陣子吹起了紙貓熊旋風，在一連舉辦了好幾場快閃活動後，正式展覽將在明天登場，1600隻紙貓熊下午展示台北市政府廣場前，郝龍斌和150位小朋友，一同佈置這些可愛的紙貓熊，讓每個人都開心的不得了。

彎腰、蹲下，把紙貓熊擺在木板上，台北市長郝龍斌帶領著150位小朋友，一起佈置場地，大家玩的不亦樂乎。

15分鐘後，1600隻紙貓熊終於齊身亮相，市府廣場前全被黑白色的貓熊佔據，形成壯觀"貓熊海"，法國設計師也特地來台共襄盛舉。

“這1600隻熊貓，是代表全球的熊貓數量，更特別的是，這回有200隻台灣紙黑熊，要提醒大家，全世界只剩下200隻的台灣黑熊”

郝龍斌也特別請大家不用擔心，這些紙製藝術品會在雨天全軍覆沒。

紙熊貓展將從明天開始到3月9日，在台北市政府前展出，隨後移師兩廳院藝文廣場，從14日展出至30日。
