Ceremony held to open new Ministry of Science and Technology (2014/03/03)

A special ceremony took place today to open the newly formed Ministry of Science and Technology. Taking over as the ministry’s first chief is Simon Chang, a former minister without portfolio.

It was out with the old and in with the new as President Ma Ying-jeou joined Cyrus Chu, former head of the now defunct National Science Council, and Simon Chang, the first head of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

After achieving a great deal of success, a wise official is returning home. Another well-prepared official takes up his post. I believe that this is a perfect way of passing the torch.

Over the past two years I have been in office, we have not once been affected by a case of influence peddling, whether from a colleague or an elected representative. We also changed our evaluation system. We are very proud of these accomplishments and hope that Minister Chang can continue our work.

In effect this is his baby he is giving me to raise. Of course he wants to tell the next caregiver what this baby likes so that he can remain happy.

Chang said he hopes his ministry and the people who work in it can reach their full potential.

科技部今天舉行掛牌交接儀式，有55年歷史的國科會正式走入歷史，馬英九總統出席致詞特別稱讚前主委朱敬一功成身退，新接任的科技部長張善政則是有備而來。

對未來科技部，張善政提出「物盡其用、人盡其才」的期許。
