Kaohsiung successfully harvests new variety of jujube (2014/03/05)

Many people have eaten candied jujube, but few have tried a new variety called Kaohsiung 11 “Honey” jujube. It is described as literally bursting with flavor. Farmers hope to take advantage of its rarity and taste to market it as a high-end export product. 

Here we see a large jujube held in a person’s hand. As soon as a bite is taken, a crisp sound is heard and the juice explodes into the mouth.

Described as a new variety of exploding jujube, the Kaohsiung 11 “Honey” jujube was developed by the Kaohsiung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station. Success by farmers who test planted it means the fruit can enter the market for the first time this year.

Now that this type of fruit is starting to enter harvest, we need to carefully manage it. 

The new variety of jujube is rare, with only 10-20 trees planted, and quite valuable. It stays fresh for about half a month if put in cold storage, creating the opportunity for it to become a high-end, export-oriented fruit.

This could go to Singapore and Brunei. If there are no quarantine problems, it can also be exported to Japan.

Kaohsiung area farmers hope this new extra juicy variety of jujube will help them get even more lucrative export orders.

爆漿蜜棗

蜜棗很多人都吃過,但會爆漿的,您吃過嗎?由高雄農改場研發,今年農民首度試種成功的高雄11號"珍蜜"蜜棗,咬下去超多汁,甚至汁還會爆出來。

手上超大顆的蜜棗,一口咬下去,清脆聲音先吸引人目光,但厲害的是,這口蜜棗,竟然會爆漿。

被稱為爆漿蜜棗的,是高雄農改場研發出來的高雄11號珍蜜蜜棗,農民試種後,今年首度上市,現在進入盛產期,超大顆果實結實纍纍。

爆漿蜜棗,全台灣現在只種了十幾甲左右,量少越顯珍貴,而珍蜜冷藏儲藏,可到半個月,有拚外銷,搶高階市場潛力。

一顆顆綠寶石,就希望靠多汁又能儲存,替農民搶進更多外銷訂單。
