A Japanese nuclear expert and a Japanese lawmaker discussed the importance of nuclear power.

Arima Akito
Former University of Tokyo President
Japan's new energy plan will increase the amount of renewable energy by the maximum amount and at the same time supplemented a sustainable amount of nuclear energy.

Hiroyuki Hosoda
Japanese Lawmaker
Taiwan doesn’t have the resources, and if construction is interrupted, the economy will be affected, which is Japan's experience in the past.

Three years after the Fukushima disaster, Japan's 45 nuclear power plants were shut down leading to huge losses. While Japan is researching how to restart these plants and Taiwan is also constructing the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant despite widespread protests as the Ministry of Economic Affairs stressed that it won’t rush to start the plant.

Woody Duh
Vice Economics Minister
The Economics Ministry and Taipower's position is very clear, if a referendum on nuclear power does not pass we will not outfit the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant with fuel rods.

Taipower added that stopping work on the nuclear power plant would lead to big losses for taxpayers and a potential energy crisis.

Chu Wen-chen
Taipower President
Our Fourth Nuclear Power Plant has seen work suspended one time and now it has dragged on expenses have increased dramatically, so if we don’t get it done now, it will the equivalent of another halt in construction.

Taipower and the Economics Ministry along with Japanese experts and lawmakers warn that brownouts and higher electricity rates could be the consequence of not completing work on the power plant.
