Over the years, Lego has spread beyond the playroom. Today, Lego operates a chain of theme parks around the world called Legoland. The first opened up beside Christiansen’s original factory in Denmark in the late 1960s. Since then, these parks that look as though they are built entirely of Lego blocks have spread as far as Asia and North America. These theme parks have Lego towns, playhouses, and even Lego roller coasters.
Lego has also found its way into classrooms as a learning tool. For older kids, Lego has robot sets that can be built and even programmed. Some teachers in the US have started using these sets to teach students about basic robotics and engineering. Even the basic building blocks have been used to teach younger students about fractions. People learn through their sight, and Lego gives teachers building blocks that show rather than tell.
