斯巴達路跑

超馬好手林義傑的故事讓許多人感動，而世界著名的希臘斯巴達超馬比賽，36小時要跑246公里，更吸引了全球好手爭相參加，台灣今年有九位選手入選，特別選在新竹十八尖山特訓，而這項艱困的超跑賽跑向終點的獎勵是一杯水。

新竹十八尖山的跑者，個個汗流浹背著跑，因為他們要前進斯巴達。

斯巴達超跑活動是源自於在兩千五百年前的古希臘戰場，求救士兵在雅典和斯巴達之間，三十六小時來回狂奔兩百四十六公里的故事，如今這條路線成為超馬好手的朝聖地。

“白天的時候溫度，差不多在三十八度，晚上的時候會，差不多接近室溫，到十度而已，所以他困難度相當高”

而斯巴達超馬比賽，每年能完成的人比例不到四成，而跑完全程的選手的得到的禮物是一杯珍貴的白開水。

而在台灣今年有共有九人入選，希望能把台灣精神帶向國際，並喝到終點珍貴的那一杯水。

Taiwan’s most famous ultra marathoner, Kevin Lin, has inspired many people to take up long distance running. Recently nine Taiwanese athletes qualified for one of the most storied races in the world, the Spartathlon, an Athens to Sparta ultra marathon which covers 246 kilometers.

On Hsinchu’s Shih Pa Chien Mountain, these runners were carrying backpacks and training in this mountainous terrain for the ultimate goal of making it to Sparta.

The Spartahlon retraces a path established 2,500 years ago when a Greek messenger was sent to Sparta to ask for military assistance. The trip took 36 hours and covered 246 kilometers. Now this route is an important pilgrimage for aspiring ultra marathoners.

During the day the temperature can reach almost 38 degrees, and at night it can drop to around 10 degrees, making the route quite difficult.

Every year the Spartathlon is a major test of human endurance. Only 40 percent of participants are able to complete the race. The winner is rewarded with a simple cup of water.

A glass of water (is the prize). In ancient Greece water was poured into a ceramic cup and the winner was presented an olive branch.

This year Taiwan had nine athletes qualify for this prestigious race. They will all take with them the spirit of Taiwan as they go overseas and run these ancient roads to compete for that sacred cup of water.
