When people think of Spain, they usually think of the capital Madrid or the country's second largest city, Barcelona. However, as a prime cultural center of Spain, Seville is also a big hit with tourists. More than two thousand years of history have given this city beautiful architectural attractions. It's also an exciting place for experiencing genuine flamenco music and dance.

The most magnificent architectural creation in Seville is probably the Alcazar. It contains the oldest palace in Europe still in use by a royal family. Developed in the twelfth century by Islamic invaders, it was later expanded by Christian rulers. Today, it's a complex of several buildings showing an artistic mix of cultures.

Facing the Alcazar is Seville Cathedral, the world's largest cathedral. It is thought to contain the bones of Christopher Columbus. Then, there's also Seville's bullring. It's the oldest bullring in Spain, and bullfights are still held here on Sundays from spring to fall.

Visitors will also want to catch a flamenco performance. Seville prides itself on being the home of flamenco in its pure form, which uses solo dancers rather than couples. Combining romance and culture, flamenco is a perfect symbol of Seville.
