Eating breakfast ’on the go’ really can lead to weight gain because it encourages people to eat more, a study has shown. Researchers from the University of Surrey found eating while walking around triggered more overeating compared to eating during other forms of distraction such as watching TV or having a conversation with a friend.

 

研究顯示,邊忙邊吃早餐,真的會造成體重增加,因為這樣會促使人吃更多。英國薩里大學研究人員發現,走動的時候吃東西,會比看電視或和朋友講話這些其他分心形式,更讓人吃下過多東西。

 

The asked 60 women to eat a cereal bar while either walking down a corridor, watching the sitcom Friends or chatting to a friend.

 

他們要求60名女性吃穀物棒,有的是走下走廊時吃,有的是看情境喜劇六人行時,或和朋友聊天時吃。

 

After the experiment the participants completed a follow-up questionnaire and a taste test involving four different bowls of snacks, including chocolate, carrot sticks, grapes and crisps. How much they ate was measured after they left the room. The results showed that dieters ate more snacks at the taste test if they had eaten the initial cereal bar whilst walking around and specifically they ate five times more chocolate.

 

實驗過後,受試者填寫追蹤問卷,並品嘗4碗不同的零嘴,包括巧克力、紅蘿蔔棒、葡萄和薯片,她們離開房間後,研究人員會測量她們吃了多少。研究結果顯示,一開始邊走動邊吃穀物棒的人,品嘗測試時會吃更多零食,特別會多吃5倍的巧克力。

 

"Eating on the go may make dieters overeat later on in the day," said lead author Professor Jane Ogden from the University of Surrey.

 

研究主筆、薩里大學教授歐格登表示:「邊忙邊吃,可能會讓吃東西的人在同天稍後吃太多。」
