4-time Olympic gold medalist Kosuke Kitajima calling it a day 4度奧運金牌得主北島康介宣布退休
Having failed to make it to a Summer Olympics for a fifth time in a row, four-time Olympic gold medalist Kosuke Kitajima announced his retirement from competitive swimming.
Kitajima, 33, finished fifth in the final of the men’s 200-meter breaststroke held April 8 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center as part of Japan Swim 2016.
The tournament is being held to decide who will represent Japan at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games.
"Although I am disappointed, I also have no regrets," Kitajima said at a news conference after his race to announce his retirement from the sport. "I am full of the feeling that I have done the best I can."
Kitajima won gold medals in the men’s 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke at the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics. He also competed at the 2000 Sydney Games and 2012 London Games.
