Production, or manufacturing, is a branch of industry. Technically speaking, it is the application of tools and a processing medium to the transformation of raw materials into finished goods for sale. This includes all processes required for the production and integration of a product's components. Some industries, such as semiconductor and steel manufacturering, use the term fabrication instead. The manufacturing sector is closely connected with engineering. Manufacturing accounts for about one quarter of the world?s economic activity.

生產（production）， 亦稱製造， 是工業的一個環節。就技術層面來說，是運用工具與加工手法，將原物料轉變成為可供販售的成品，涵蓋生產製造與產品零件整合的全面處理過程。某些工業， 如半導體和煉鋼工業， 傾向使用「裝配」（fabrication）一詞。製造部門與工程學的關係密不可分。全球經濟活動裡製造業占了約四分之一的比重。

Industry, as an uncountable noun, generally refers to the manufacturing sector of the economy. However, with a qualifying adjective in front, industry is countable and can refer to any sector of the economy, for example the fashion industry, the TV industry, or the advertising industry.

產業（industry）在英文中為不可數名詞，泛指經濟體系下的所有製造部門。然而加上了形容詞在industry 的前面修飾，就會形成可數名詞，可指稱經濟結構下的任何部門。舉例來說，時尚業（fashion industry）、電視業（TV industry） 或是廣告業（advertising industry）。
