The fitness and wellness industry has grown tremendously in the past few decades and it shows no sign of slowing down. In 2019, it was estimated that the industry’s global revenue was more than US$96 billion. The fact that working out is such a big moneymaker explains why everyone wants to create and trademark their own workouts. You have probably even heard of some of them. Do CrossFit and Zumba ring a bell? Well, now there is a new workout called Animal Flow.

Animal Flow will look a bit familiar if you’ve ever joined a floor exercise class such as Pilates and yoga. Animal Flow is a bodyweight workout, which means there are no props or machines involved; all lifting or resistance comes from the weight of your own body, like push-ups or sit-ups. The workout consists of different movements that you flow through. The aim of the class is to improve strength and mobility.

如果你曾上過像是皮拉提斯及瑜珈等地板運動課程,你就會覺得野獸流看起來有點熟悉。野獸流是一項徒手訓練,意指不需要任何器材或機器;所有抬升或抗力都來自於你自身的重量,就像伏地挺身或仰臥起坐等動作。野獸流由你「流經」的不同動作組合而成。該課程的主旨是要提升力量及靈活性。

 

The classes don’t have set routines, but there are six categories (referred to as the “Six Components”) which can be incorporated into the workout in an endless variety of ways. The first two—wrist mobilizations and activations—are both warm-up exercises that are usually done at the start of classes. The other four categories include: form specific stretches (full body stretches that start in a base animal position and then continue through various movements); traveling forms (movements that mimic animals); switches and transitions (movements that link together stretches); and flows (all components are linked in one of three ways).

野獸流課程沒有固定的套路,但有六個類別(被稱為「六大元素」),能以無數種方式併入該運動中。前兩個是手腕活動與活化運動,皆為在課堂開始時常使用的暖身運動。其他四個包含:特定形式伸展(以基礎動物形式的姿勢開始,接著透過各種動作持續進行的全身伸展);移動形式(模仿動物的動作);轉換和轉移(結合伸展的動作);以及流動(所有元素以三種方式之一連接在一起)。

 

In a standard class, you will find instructors leading students through different flows. They can then work on the exercises they learn outside of class for practice or just for fun.

在一堂正規課程中,你會看到教練們帶領著學生做不同的流動。學生之後也能在課堂外做這些他們學習到的運動,不論是練習或單純為了好玩都可以。
