Organizers and police vary wildly in estimating rally attendance figures (2014/03/31)
Organizers of yesterday’s Sunflower Movement mass rally estimated that crowds reached half a million people. That was more than four times the number put forward by police, making it difficult to know whom to trust.
Organizers of yesterday’s protest event, the Black Island Nation Youth Front, estimated that crowds reached 350,000 people by 2 pm on Sunday.
At 4 pm, organizers estimated that the crowds had reached 500,000, though police said the number was more likely around 116,000.

According to University of California Berkeley’s Herbert Jacobs Method, each square meter can accommodate three people. If they are sitting, each square meter holds two people. Our estimate is based on this international standard.
Police estimate the total area occupied by those attending the Sunflower Movement was approximately 56,000 square meters, with people both sitting and standing. Organizers, however, seem to have a different map which they made available via Facebook.
According to the density of these black dots, which are black-shirted protestors, organizers estimate the total area occupied by standing protestors is 150,000 square meters which would put the number of protestors at 450,000. If they add areas obscured or covered in the aerial photo, the total number would be 500,000.

警方認定黑潮分部面積約5萬6千平方公尺，其中有坐有站，但主辦單位在臉書放上黑衫軍分佈圖。
依照黑點密集度，主辦單位認為總面積約有近15萬平方公尺，通通站著，人數就來到了近45萬人，再加上被遮蔽到的地區，所以高達50萬人。
