Former DPP Chairman Lin Yi-hsiung is just one day from beginning a fast to protest continued construction of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. Lin’s protest will be just one of many in the coming days by anti-nuclear activists.

Sunflower Movement members explained their side of recent student-led protests against the cross-Taiwan Strait services trade pact to prosecutors today. The group voluntarily sought out prosecutors rather than answer a police summons.

Government discusses tax to reduce property hoarding (2014/04/21)

To stop speculators from hoarding property, the government is mooting a rise in taxes on homes that do not serve as the owners’ main residence. This latest proposal to make housing more affordable comes after Premier Jiang Yi-huah said his two children would be unable to independently purchase a home.

Tung Blossoms
Yunlin County’s Gukeng Township began cultivation of coffee and tung blossoms during the Japanese colonial era. Annually, from April to May, the entire 5-kilometer Hebaoshan hiking trail is covered with tung blossoms resembling snowfall. Blossoms can also be seen in Changhua’s Baguashan Futien Community, where early in the morning they resemble a layer of snow in this pastoral mountain location.

DPP Chairman Su Tseng-change meets Taipei Mayor to discuss nuclear referendum (2014/04/20)

DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang met Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin this morning to discuss the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. In particular, the two discussed a DPP backed referendum to stop work on the plant that would only require a simple majority to pass. Hau expressed a willingness to brief the KMT on today’s talks, including President Ma.
