President, business leaders search for ways to end standoff over trade-in-services pact (2014/03/31)
President Ma Ying-jeou says the Cabinet will announce plans for a civic constitutional meeting as early as Thursday. It is one of several olive branches Ma has offered to students protesting against the cross-strait trade-in-services pact. But Ma has not managed to build a platform for dialogue with the students, which has led some anxious business leaders to propose meeting with the students themselves.
While holding a photograph of yesterday’s protest against the cross-strait trade-in-services pact, President Ma defended himself. He told business leaders that he has listened to student requests and will not run away from the issue.

The Cabinet will give its ideas for a conference this Thursday, in response to the students’ request for a citizens’ constitutional conference. We have given positive responses to these requests from students.
Industrial and commercial representatives have become more vocal about their wish to see the standoff in the Legislative Yuan end. They are considering meeting with the students themselves.

The students don’t understand the trade-in-services pact. When I read it, I saw that there’s nothing bad for industry. We hope to bring 60 industrial representatives to see how they have been doing over the past few days. If the need arises, we should go directly to the Legislative Yuan to speak with them.
First university presidents and now business representatives are trying to bring an end to the dispute. They hope to serve as a bridge between the students and the president so constructive dialogue can take place.

330反服貿活動後，總統馬英九今天上午特地接見，工商企業界代表43人，聲明已回應學生訴求，行政院最快星期四，就會提出召開公民憲政會議的方案。工商代表呼籲政府跟學生都應該當解開結的人，商總理事長賴正鎰，還考慮率領六十個產業公會理事長，到立法院親自跟學生們溝通。

學生提出公民憲政會議，這個禮拜四院會，行政院就會宣佈，對這些會議召開的結論，學生的這一項的訴求，我們也做了正面的回應。
工業、商業兩大總會理事長，則聯手出面喊話，希望反服貿學運，能夠盡快落幕，甚至還主動要跟學生們，面對面溝通。

學生們畢竟不了解服貿是什麼，我拿來讀的時候，發現到沒有什麼對產業不利的，我們想帶領60個(產業代表)，看他們這幾天狀況，必要時我想我們直接進立法院，來跟他們直接說明。
先有大學校長，現在又是企業代表，都想幫忙搭起，馬總統跟學生之間的溝通橋樑，雙方何時能夠對話，就看誰願意主動，解開僵局。
