Japanese NGO cleans up Hsinchu community in response to Fukushima donations (2014/03/03)

Members of a Japanese NGO dressed in costumes today to clean a Hsinchu County street. It was their third visit to express gratitude for Taiwan’s generous donations in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and tsunami.

Members of this Japanese NGO are dressed in colorful red, blue, yellow and green costumes. They march together down Hsinchu County’s Neiwan Old Street. Their task today is not fighting evil forces, but instead cleaning the streets as they carry plastic bags and bend over to pick litter off the ground. They are all volunteers performing sanitation work, with many coming from as far away as Japan.

These Japanese volunteers are performing this service in Taiwan to thank local citizens for their donations in the wake of the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami. It is the third visit in three years for this volunteer group.

Japanese Volunteer
Taiwan and Japan can work together to clean the streets. We really want to thank Taiwan.

A total of 10 Japanese nationals paid their own expenses to come to Taiwan and engage in this work. A number of local citizens also joined the activity, with some also coming dressed as cartoon characters to make this activity more fun.

這群日本志工,?了感謝台灣在311大地震,對於日本的幫助,三年來三度來台灣撿垃圾。
