Taichung company provides snowboards to top Olympic competitors (2014/03/03)
At the Sochi Olympics, Swedish snowboarder Sven Thorgren was one of many athletes to put on a show. While Thorgren is a familiar face, few know that his snowboard was made in Taiwan. Excellent design and manufacturing have turned a company that calls this sub-tropical island home into the world’s largest original equipment manufacturer of snowboards.
Top snowboarders from around the world are getting big air and executing 360 flips. Their excellent skill and speed are made possible due to the snowboards they are riding, many of which are made in Taiwan.

I always wanted to stay in Taiwan, and this is a real art, so I thought about developing these snowboards.
Behind the scenes is a seven-person team located in Taichung’s Xinshe District. Originally, they produced in-line skates. More than 20 years ago, they began R&D investment into snowboards, traveling to Europe to learn construction from scratch. When they started visiting customers, many balked at placing orders because they knew Taiwan was a country without snow and snowboarding.

Those who sell the materials or make the machinery also thought that Taiwan couldn’t produce this type of thing. The six or seven people we have here put a lot of thought into this business over the past 10 or more years.
These individuals did not give up and continued to research and innovate, eventually gaining the attention of international companies. Now they have the world’s largest snowboard OEM with annual revenue of NT$550 million.
滑雪板爭光
才剛落幕的俄羅斯索契冬季奧運，瑞典滑雪選手索格倫，比賽中跳躍英姿被國際媒體拍下，當時他用的滑雪板就是來自台灣；這塊滑雪板是由七個完全不懂滑雪的男人埋頭鑽研，從一開始外國人根本不買帳，到現在是世界最大滑雪板代工廠。
騰空飛越、360度空翻，世界各國頂尖好手，秀出速度感和技巧，腳下踩的滑雪板，正是台灣製造。

一直想說，要把這種東西根留台灣，這種才是真正有技術的，所以才會去想到說，來開發滑雪板這種東西。
幕後推手就是這七人團隊，位在台中新社的廠房，原本做直排輪起家，二十多年前投入滑雪板研發，走訪歐洲各國從頭學起，但是起初當客戶聽到生產滑雪板的，是來自根本不會下雪的台灣，完全不買帳。

那些買料的，或是那些做機台的，他們也覺得說，台灣不可能去做這種東西，我們這六、七個這十幾年來花費很多心思。
七個人不放棄，努力鑽研，終於被國際大廠相中，指定代工，現在每年的營業額高達5億5千多萬，更成為全世界最大的滑雪板代工廠。
