Standoff in Ukraine affecting foreign, domestic markets (2014/03/03)
The disturbances in Ukraine are having an impact on world markets. Commodities are up and stocks were down today, while Taiwanese businesspeople who set up factories in the Eastern European nation anxiously await new developments.
Demonstrators pick up clubs, hammers and anything else they can get their hands on. In protest, they swing these makeshift weapons at police. These scenes are from protests last month against the now ousted President Viktor Yanukovych.
Among the losers are local Taiwanese businesspeople hurt by the instability.

If fighting doesn’t break out but the tension continues, oil prices could rise another 2 or 3 percent. This is a conservative estimate.
