Switch malfunction causes serious high-speed rail delays (2014/04/29)

About 10,000 passengers were affected by the most serious of a recent spate of delays on the high-speed railway. A switch malfunction delayed traffic Tuesday morning between Taipei Main Station and Banqiao Station. More than three hours were needed to restore normal service.

High-speed railway operator expresses regret over service disruption (2014/04/29)

Following today’s service disruption, the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation held a press conference to express regret to passengers. It blamed recent delays on micro switch quality problems and said it is working with the supplier to solve the issue.

Robot Builders
Students from Lin Yuan Elementary School, Kaohsiung returned to Taiwan today as winners in the recent First Lego League robotics competition. At the FLL competition in Missouri they developed a robot capable of overcoming obstacles associated with a tsunami disaster. Their gold medal is the first for the school in an international competition.

Local college tries to dress up snack foods that revolt foreigners (2014/04/29)

CNN reported that foreigners find several Taiwanese snacks revolting, such as preserved eggs, pig blood rice pudding and stinky tofu. To dispel this assertion, a local university invited chefs to put a twist on the ingredients so they would be more appealing to foreigners.

Premier agrees to halt work, but not halt construction, to the nuclear plant (2014/04/28)

A gap remains between the government and anti-nuclear power protesters. While Premier Jiang Yi-huah has agreed to halt work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, he will not concede a halt to construction. Jiang hopes to leave room for the government to build support so the plant can open in the future.
