Students occupying Legislature deplore use of violence by riot police (2014/03/24)

As students occupying the Legislature watched those at the Executive Yuan being beaten with police batons and doused with water, they moved to fortify their own position. They criticized the violence and called it a violation of power. 

Students occupying the Legislature added a waterproof tarp to their barricade on the seventh day of the occupation. The move comes after water cannons were deployed on protestors outside the Executive Yuan last evening. Protest leaders are more resolute than ever after last evening’s use of force.

We will not retreat. I don’t think we need to (forcibly) resist. We are doing all we can to protect and respect this Legislature. 

While students occupying the Legislature remain confident, they deplored the use of force by police.

After fellow students broke in, others held a sit-in strike and still others protested. But deploying such an overwhelming police force obviously violates basic principles. It is an obvious abuse of police and state power. 

Student protestors say they have no intention of provoking the police. Student leader Chen Wei-ting pledged to use peaceful means to put forth demands and bring everyone into the debate.

看到佔領行政院的學生遭到警方強制驅離，還發生流血衝突。這讓守候在立法院的學生也很擔心，今天反服貿學生在立院內召開記者會，表示他們絕對不會撤退。

看到攻佔行政院的學生被警方用水注驅離，守在立法院第七天的學生，在國會議場的出入口，鋪上防水的帆布。學生代表更表示，前一晚衝突，反而更堅定死守議場的決心。

向場內同學信心喊話，也痛罵警方執法不當。

“這些同學只不過衝進去以後，許多人在裡面靜坐，抗爭，但是卻動用了這麼大規模的警力，這很明顯地違反比例原則，這很明顯的濫用警力，濫用國家暴力”

不希望再激起更多情緒，陳為廷表示，他們會用最和平的方法，來提出訴求，並呼籲全國社會大眾一起加入。
