Huang Shyh-ming resigns after being found guilty of leaking investigation info (2014/03/21)

When Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng skipped the meeting on the student occupation with President Ma Ying-jeou on Friday, it brought back memories of a major political dispute between the two last year. Today the person who started that dispute by telling Ma about alleged influence peddling by Wang was found guilty of leaking information related to an ongoing investigation. After being convicted, State Prosecutor-General Huang Shyh-ming resigned. 

Last September Huang Shyh-ming referred to the Wang Jin-pyng case as “the biggest influence peddling scandal in history.” Little did he know that he would end up being the one found guilty of a crime. Huang is the first sitting state prosecutor-general to be indicted and found guilty of a criminal offense.

The Special Investigation Division had already investigated this case. So testimony from (Huang) that this did not pertain to release of information related to an investigation is invalid.

Before the division signed documents to conclude its investigation of Wang, Huang reported on the case to President Ma. The court ruled this constitutes the release of confidential information related to an investigation. It sentenced Huang to one year, two months, though it will let him commute the sentence to a fine.

Following the sentence, Huang resigned from his position as state prosecutor-general. He emphasized that this was only fulfilling an earlier promise to step down if convicted and that he did not agree with the ruling. Huang added that if he could go back in time, he would act in the same way.

黃世銘一定沒想到，去年9月揭發「史上最大關說醜聞」，居然讓他成為我國史上第一位涉刑案被起訴而且判決有罪的檢察總長。

台北地院認定，在特偵組簽結關說案之前，向馬英九總統報告相關事證，違反洩密等罪，判處他1年2月徒刑，可易科罰金。。

黃世銘立刻發出辭職聲明，不過他強調這是履行他一審有罪就下台的承諾，絕非認同法院判決。他還強調，假如時間可以倒轉，依然不後悔所作的一切。
