First thing 和 the first thing
First thing 與 The first thing 的意思截然不同。
First thing (注意沒有定冠詞) 意為「一大早」(即早上最早的時候)。例如：I’ll fly to Japan first thing tomorrow. (我明天一大早就要搭機到日本)
The first thing意為「最基本的常識、規則等等」。例如：He does not know the first thing about baseball. (他連最基本的棒球常識都不懂/他對棒球一無所悉)。這個片語大多用在否定結構。
