Colors and new 4G functions target young people for cell phone upgrades (2014/02/06)

This year cell phone makers are betting functions such as swapping colors along with 4G support and waterproof functions will help attract consumers. Many others believe that cheaper prices will help woo young cell phone users. 

This model is dressed colorfully and modeling this cell phone on a catwalk. This is a new cell phone launched by a leading Japanese maker targeting young people eager to upgrade their phone. It’s a mid-ranged product with many functions which promises good value for the money.

This year, we hope that smartphone revenue can account for 25 percent of our total business volume.

Last year, the chief selling point for cell phone makers was a big display screen, with some expanding from four inches to six inches. This year, however, the industry is using color to compete, with Sony, HTC, Samsung and even Apple offering new models in three colors or more. While the functions may be the same, they hope these colors may encourage young consumers to change their phones.

Regarding these bright colors, they appeal more to young people, with some people choosing the gold color because it’s the Year of the Golden Horse. 

Last year, smartphone shipments topped NT$1bn, which is 30 percent growth from the previous year. This year, many are targeting mid-priced models, which may prove to be the most competitive segment of the industry.

早春出新機

才剛過完年,手機市場已經掀起大戰,去年強調大尺寸的手機,今年則是以顏色多變取勝,不僅能支援4G,防水防塵,而且顏色亮眼,更重要的是,價格便宜,要搶攻年輕族群。

找來了模特兒穿著繽紛色彩在舞台上走秀,日本科技大廠發表新款手機,鎖定年輕族群的換機潮,推出中階手機,功能完備,強調物超所值。

今年希望在智慧型手機,營業額上面能佔到兩成五的業績。

去年手機越做越大,四吋到六吋都有,而今年各家業者紛紛以顏色來競爭,不論是sony、htc、Samsung、或iphone的新機種,都至少推出三種以上的顏色。功能大同小異,從顏色方面來變化,就是看準年輕人的喜新厭舊。

像是比較彩漾色系,是年輕人比較會追尋的,有些人會因為金馬年而選擇金色。

光是去年,智慧型手機出貨量就達到10億元,年成長率約3成,今年鎖定中階手機的市場,就是希望在激烈競爭的手機市場,殺出另一條血路。
