President Ma visits Port of Taipei to inspect free economic demonstration zone (2014/02/16)

Today, President Ma Ying-jeou made a public visit the Port of Taipei. He appeared with New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu, ahead of a 4-day seminar about regional trade which begins on Monday.

President Ma Ying-jeou visited the Port of Taipei this morning, to personally inspect the progress of the free economic demonstration zone.

We will strive to improve the economy this year, internally we have the free economic demonstration zone, and externally we will try to meet conditions necessary for joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. Though we may not be able to join these organizations this year, as this undertaking is quite difficult but meeting these conditions (for joining) shows our commitment and sincerity.

New Taipei Mayor, Eric Chu was also quite busy appearing with President Ma today, and yesterday, appearing in Yunlin. His busy schedule has many believing he may be eyeing a run at the 2016 presidential election.

Each time I visit southern and central Taiwan, it has something related to municipal services, such as visiting the (Yunlin) Agriculture Expo at the invitation of Yunlin County Commissioner Su or hosting a seminar for farmers in Changhua and Yunlin about New Taipei’s nutritious school lunch program.

Chu has made waves for his criticism of the central government for not giving more vacation over the Lunar New Year holiday. With his recent trip down south, many are wondering if he’s setting his sights on the 2016 presidential election.

總統馬英九上午視察台北港，親自了解自由經濟示範區的進度，同時也再度強調，政府拼經濟的決心，全程陪同的新北市長朱立倫，被問到前一天到雲林跑行程，是不是有意為2016鋪路？他說到雲林是蘇治芬縣長的邀請，就算其他縣市的行程，也都是跟市政有關。

“我們今年拚經濟，對內就是自由經濟示範區，對外就是能夠創造，參加TPP跟RCEP的條件，所謂創造意思是說，我們沒有把握今年一定能夠進得去，因為不是很容易，但是把條件創造出來，讓別人感受到，我們的誠意跟決心”

新北市長朱立倫全程陪同，加上昨天還到雲林跑行程，更被解讀是為了2016總統大選，開始先鋪路。

“其實我每一次到中南部，大概都是跟市政業務有直接的相關的，不論是參觀農博，也是應蘇縣長的邀請，那另外我們主要跟雲林彰化，與跟我們新北市營養午餐契作的農戶，來做座談”

從農曆春節期間，為了放假太少，砲轟中央太僵化，現在行程又跨越濁水溪，也難怪外界對他爭取2016總統大位，多了想像空間。
