Actor Li Chih-hsi appeals to parents to monitor children’s internet usage (2014/03/13)

A TV actor is urging parents to do more to monitor their children’s online activities. Li Chih-hsi李志希is cooperating with government officials to make sure kids are safe online. 

Actor Li Chih-hsi filmed this public service ad with his three children and wife. They want to strengthen parental controls on the internet. Li said that he and his wife limit the amount of time their children spend online.

They should spend less time on cell phones and the computer because they’ll have to use them a lot in the future. I don’t want them to use these devices and ruin their eyes and ears.

Li says the importance of monitoring internet content cannot be overstated. Government agencies are relying on inter-ministerial cooperation to strengthen oversight.

I think that schools should strengthen this message. This something that we can do. For criminal behavior, government agencies can work with NGOs.

Representatives from industry, academia and government are working towards increasing internet security and content monitoring. They will provide a hotline and other resources to protect children when they’re online.
