基隆中元祭
中元祭最高潮就是「放水燈」了，昨天晚間在基隆八斗子熱鬧登場，同時還有造型花車遊行，吸引民眾圍觀。行政院長陳?也特地來參加，不過這陣子風災不斷，再加上墜機事件，陳?也趁機會祈福，期盼台灣能夠風調雨順、國泰民安。
晚上11點半一到，基隆八斗子望海巷漁港海邊， 燃起熊熊火光，中元重頭戲放水燈，熱鬧登場。
放水燈在過去是為了指引孤魂野鬼，也是台灣特有的文化，吸引民眾前往。
行政院長陳?也特地出席，不過這陣子風災不斷，讓他在致詞時似乎是有感而發。

除了北部基隆的放水燈盛會，南部也有活動來迎接中元節，恆春搶孤今年在鎮東門城外舉行，配合恆春古城建城一百三十週年紀念。
One of the high points of the annual ghost festival is the release of water lanterns at Keelung’s Badouzi Harbor. Each year a parade with floats leads a crowd to the area where the ritual is performed.
Yesterday at 11:30 in the evening, Keelung’s Badouzi Harbor was ablaze with flames as the faithful gathered to celebrate Ghost Month and the annual release of water lanterns.
Releasing water lanterns is a way to guide wayward ghosts and spirits, a unique part of Taiwanese culture and an event that annually attracts a big crowd.
Premier Sean Chen specially attended this event, though this time high winds led him to cancel his speech.

In the past few years natural disasters have taught us that nothing is more important than favorable weather along with peace and prosperity.
Aside from releasing water lanterns in Keelung, Hengchun hosted a special pole climbing competition outside the east gate of its ancient wall. It was one of many Ghost Festival activities that took place around Taiwan today.
