天秤颱風回馬槍重創蘭嶼，17級強陣風和高達十公尺的巨浪，島上唯一的加油站和農會超市全都面目全非，整座島屋倒路斷滿目瘡痍，機場港口都毀了，對外交通完全中斷，台東縣政府緊急調派空搜直升機，將物資送往蘭嶼，同時也將受傷的民眾後送台東。

天秤颱風帶來狂風巨浪，打得開元港內的機動船和拼板舟倒成一片，超過五十支小型漁船被大浪吞噬，大浪甚至一度衝進民宅。

蘭嶼的跑道堆滿漂流木和石頭，碼頭也封閉，對外交通中斷，空勤總隊直升機將物資送到蘭嶼，也把受傷的民眾，後送台東。

因翻船而受傷的漁民，回想當時大浪打翻船，還是很害怕。

電信公司大門口堆滿巨石和倒落的樹木，蘭嶼農會超市，屋頂被吹垮，柱子也都倒了，變成一堆瓦礫。還有這座蘭嶼唯一的加油站，也滿目瘡痍。

許多居民在蘭嶼住了十多年，從沒見過這麼嚴重的颱風，重建的過程恐怕是一條漫漫長路。

Residents of the outlying island of Lanyu, or Orchid Island, are busy cleaning up after their home was thrashed by Typhoon Tembin. The storm packed level 17 winds and waves as high as 10 meters. It damaged the island’s only gas station and a supermarket, and led to the closure of roads, the harbor and the airport.

Typhoon Tembin brought huge waves which rocked Kaiyuan Harbor, smashing motorized boats and wooden canoes as well as more than 50 small fishing vessels. Waves even rocked a few nearby residences.

The wind was very strong and all these outer walls have collapsed.

The runway at Lanyu’s airport was filled with driftwood and stones, and the harbor was also closed, cutting off transportation between the island and Taiwan. The National Airborne Service Corps deployed supplies to the island by helicopter, with injured people evacuated to Taitung.

A few fishermen capsized and were injured during the storm. They recalled waves that crashed into their vessels with fear.

The boat turned over. The wave was too big and the wind was too strong. That boat is destroyed.

The entrance to this telecommunications company is blocked by large boulders and topped trees. The Lanyu Farmers' Association Supermarket was also blown down by heavy winds, its pillars crumbled and the roof caved in. Now it’s just a pile of rubble. The only gas station in Lanyu is also devastated.

Many residents of Lanyu say they haven’t seen a typhoon like this in over a decade. They fear a long reconstruction process awaits.
