Legislators from Japan’s ruling party resolved Monday to promote a Japanese version of the Taiwan Relations Act, and Beijing isn’t happy about it. China’s foreign ministry came out against the idea at a press conference Wednesday.

We firmly oppose the attempt to institute a so-called Japanese version of the Taiwan Relations Act by some Japanese lawmakers to strengthen ties with Taiwan.

The spokeswoman warned Japan that following through with the idea would hurt Sino-Japanese relations. Japan has raised the idea in the past, but the latest initiative drew attention because it was led by Nobuo Kishi, Japan’s deputy foreign minister and younger brother of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

台灣關係法

中國外交部在昨天的例行記者會上，對日本日前在"促進日台經濟文化交流青年議員會"上決議，要推動日本版的台灣關係法，嚴正反對。

“我們堅決反對日本某些議員，提議制定所謂日本版的台灣關係法，以強化日台關係的企圖”

華春瑩警告日本，若不妥善處理絕對會影響到中日關係發展。過去日本議員也曾提議過台灣關係法，但這次擔任青年議員會的會長岸信夫是外務副大臣跟首相安倍晉三的胞弟，因此引起關注。
