Interior minister’s resignation leads to much speculation (2014/02/26)

Lee Hong-yuan was among the most popular members of the Cabinet, but reported discord with Premier Jiang Yi-huah made him look vulnerable. Opposition party members believe the decision to replace Lee came directly from President Ma Ying-jeou. They suspect Ma wants to fill the government with loyalists to strengthen his hold on power. 

A KMT legislator directly asked Premier Jiang if the removal of Interior Minister Lee Hong-yuan is meant to pave Jiang’s path to the presidency in 2016. Jiang denied any such hearsay.

As for the so-called 2016 election, I have no opinion on the matter and no plans.

The reshuffle is the first of the lunar new year. Many analysts believe that Jiang does not have the power to oust Lee and that the actual decision came from the president. Fueling speculation is the manner in which the announcement was made – late at night, a method used by President Ma in the past.

After Jiang Yi-huah left academia for politics, his behavior became a lot like that of Ma Ying-jeou. When handling matters he is gentle and reserved and places great importance on officials remaining loyal. His political skill is very strong. Lee Hong-yuan cannot compare to Jiang in these matters.

Jiang was a surprise Cabinet addition in 2008 when he became head of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission. Over a period of just five years, he moved up to head the Cabinet. He is seen as one of Ma’s most trusted aides.

江強勢主導

內政部長李鴻源這回去膱,傳出是行政院長江宜樺強勢主導,一夕拍板,震撼政壇,立委訝異,江宜樺一派斯文,手段卻不輸馬總統。

國民黨立委直接了當的問，行政院長江宜樺趕緊否認馬總統想扶植自己選總統的傳聞。

不過在野立委認為，農曆年後第一波內閣小幅改組，政壇還在質疑，江宜樺沒有人事主導權，現在內政部長李鴻源夜半去職，這樣的作風跟馬總統同出一轍。

“江宜樺這個從學者從政之後，他的個性是跟馬英九比較像，處事比較陰柔，重視這種所謂的忠臣倫理，或者是說這種政治手腕，顯然李鴻源是不如江宜樺”

2008年，江宜樺以黑馬之姿進入馬團隊，擔任研考會主委，短短五年就成為行政院長，一直被視為馬英九心腹。
