Premier says Cabinet mulling new holiday schedule in 2015 (2014/02/26)

Next year six national holidays will fall on the weekend. The Cabinet is considering new holiday rules to ease the concerns of workers anxious for days off. It will have to find a balance with employers who worry about the effects of more holidays on their bottom line.

National holidays are enjoyed by people trying to extend their vacation, families getting together, or laborers simply getting some time off. However, next year six national holidays will fall on the weekend, leading the Cabinet to consider adjusting next year’s calendar.

To give people a little more joy, we will consider fixing problems in the system.

At the moment, the Cabinet is mulling three options.

Extending the Lunar New Year holiday to nine days, compensating for national holidays that land on a weekend, or declaring Lantern Festival and Christmas as holidays.

Some employers are worried that these changes would increase costs.

If export-oriented orders come in, you will need to rush to make shipments and will have to work overtime or extend working hours. This could result in increased costs.

The premier finds himself in a difficult balancing act to please both employers and employees.

放假小確幸

明年有六天國定假日適逢週末，導致民眾平白被吃掉六天休假。行政院長江宜樺昨天明確表態，要增加國定假日的立場，相關腹案還在討論階段，但工商界代表則不樂見，表示政府多放假，產業成本就會增加。

趁著休假，享受親子休閒時光，不少勞工最期盼的，就是國定休假。不過，明年有六天國定假日剛好都碰上週末，行政院因而考慮調整休假制度。

從我們一般民眾的小幸福之所在，來思考這整個制度的問題。

行政院目前考量三方案，包括：
將春節連假固定休九天；或是國定假日遇週末要補假；第三種就是外界認為元宵、耶誕節等該休的假、就要休。

不過，聽到政府研擬要增加國定假日休假，資方認為會造成企業成本提高。
