A look at ancient artifacts stored at Academia Sinica museum (2014/03/07)

While the National Palace Museum is Taiwan’s best known museum for ancient Chinese artifacts, several other locations also have important collections. Among them is the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology, which is attached to the Academia Sinica in Taipei.

Bronze implements from the Yinshang era, countless Ming and Qing dynasty official documents – this isn’t the National Palace Museum. It is the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology.

Other items include China’s earliest calligraphy. Among the most impressive pieces is a 44-centimeter long oracle bone inscription on tortoise shell. It is 3,000 years old and said to be the world’s largest such artifact.

Here it is really good I think. My major is ancient period times, so it’s really helpful for my studies.

The Museum of the Institute of History and Philology also has examination result lists that include top late-Qing officials Li Hongzhang and Shen Baozhen. For those who want to explore history, it offers a valuable collection.
