Elementary school teacher helps spread knowledge of Taiwan’s indigenous plants (2014/04/20)

A substitute teacher at Changhua’s Luoyang Elementary School traveled Taiwan for four years collecting seeds. He then put actual seeds into a book he published to teach students about nature.

This book is 12 centimeters thick. Its real plant seeds, illustrations and text allow students to gain a deeper understanding of botany.

Wu Chih-ming
Teacher
It’s difficult to take students into nature. If you retrieve these seeds and give them to students to see, it makes quite a big impression. It lets them know that Taiwan has such beauty.

Wu Chih-ming spent four years crisscrossing all of Taiwan. He did this so students would have something to see and touch in class.

“We can learn more by directly seeing these plants.”

This seed book has 40 pages and weighs 5 kilograms. There are total of 16 different seeds. Though the book was difficult to produce, it contains important knowledge for young students.
