DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang meets Premier Jiang Yi-huah for nuclear power plant talks (2014/04/21)
DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang met with Premier Jiang Yi-huah this afternoon to discuss the fate of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. Su put forward suggestions to scrap the plant, including an executive order and a DPP-backed referendum. Jiang rejected both measures though promised to pass the message on to President Ma Ying-jeou.
With five core aides in tow, DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang visited Premier Jiang Yi-huah with the purpose of solving the stalemate over the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant.
Su Tseng-chang
DPP Chairman
We hope that President Ma and the Cabinet can announce an (executive order) to suspend work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant.
Jiang Yi-huah
Premier
Now many citizens have a high degree of interest in keeping or abolishing the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. The Legislature has also made a few related resolutions, so I think it would be one-sided and impossible to issue an executive order to announce suspension of work on the power plant.
After failing to achieve consensus about the use of an executive order, Su attempted another tactic.
Su Tseng-chang
DPP Chairman
Our proposed special regulations for the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, that would allow (for a simple majority vote), could only apply to this referendum and not others.
Premier Jiang rejected both of Su’s suggestions, leading the stalemate over the contentious Fourth Nuclear Power Plant to continue.
