Michael看到外籍同事Jane臉色不太好看，和其他同事有爭執，他問Jane發生了什麼事。Jane說：
＂They’re always trying to pass the buck.＂

●Pass the buck，buck不是「錢」嗎？同事們為何老是把錢遞給Jane啊？！
原來pass the buck是職場常用語，不是遞錢。

1. They’re always trying to pass the buck.
（Ｘ）他們總是把錢遞給我。
（Ｏ）他們總是把責任推給我。

我們最熟悉的buck是指「錢」。例如：
● People are into making a quick buck. 人人都想賺容易錢。
Pass the buck其實是指「推卸責任」。Buck除了「錢」之外，還能指「雄鹿」。Pass the buck說法可能源於撲克牌。過去人們賭牌時會用「buck」 (雄鹿) 角製成的獵刀，以示是誰是莊家。Pass the buck就是讓別人來做莊，引申為「推卸責任」。

●Don’t pass the buck! You know it’s your turn to do that!
別推卸責任，你知道這回該你做了！

還有一個類似的用法是：
● The buck stops here.
（Ｘ）錢停在這兒。
（Ｏ）我負責。
這句是指不再推卸責任，責任到此為止。

2. You can’t buck the system.
（Ｘ）你不能買通這個系統。
（Ｏ）你無法反抗現存體制。

Buck可以當動詞，有「反抗、抵制、與…鬥爭」的意思。可以想像一個畫面，雄鹿用角互鬥的那種場面。例句：
● We have to buck against bad luck.我們必須與厄運作鬥爭。
類似地，buck the trend指的是「逆勢而上」。

例如：●This company is the only one to have bucked the trend of a declining industry.

3. He is bucking for a promotion at work.

（Ｏ）他非常渴望升職。

Buck還有一個意思，指「渴望、覬覦」，經常和for搭配，buck for：
