Muhammad Yunus, a former Nobel Peace Prize winner, is honored in Taipei (2014/04/13)

Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus, a Bangladesh native known for making micro-credit loans to the poor, was awarded an honorary citizen by Taipei Mayor, Hau Lung-bin. He shared his experiences creating opportunities and funding for the poor, and urged local young people to start their own businesses. 

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin held this honorary citizen declaration which he presented to Muhammad Yunus, a former Nobel Peace Prize winner. Yunus is known for being a “banker for the poor" in his native Bangladesh. He was in Taiwan giving a speech as his bank soon hopes to begin operations in Taiwan.

We are all told that business is there to make money. Each young person should be proud to say that I am not a job seeker, I am job taker.

Today, he took time to share his experience with Lin Hwai-min, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founder.

Throughout history, from ancient times till now, there has been no way to avoid the wealth gap. But the insights of Mr. Yunus regarding banking may be able to be able to break through this. And my work regarding valuing a spiritual life leads me to believe many can accomplish this. 

Lin and Yunus agreed that the biggest challenge Taiwan's economy faces is lifting the spirit of entrepreneurship and helping this generation of citizens dare to achieve their dreams.

諾貝爾和平獎得主尤努斯，成功創立「窮人銀行」，這回來台灣演講，獲得郝龍斌頒發「榮譽市民狀」，今年他把「窮人銀行」帶進台灣，希望鼓勵年輕人勇敢創業，今天還和雲門舞集創辦人林懷民，交流意見。

接下郝龍斌手中的「榮譽市民狀」，諾貝爾和平獎得主、也是孟加拉「窮人銀行」創辦人，尤努斯，來台演講，今年他的窮人銀行也要進軍台灣。

你們都被告知說，做事業的目的就是賺錢，但每個年輕人都應該要以身為一個創業者自居。

這次來台分享經驗，連雲門舞集創辦人林懷民，都很支持。

歷史上從古至今貧富差距是沒辦法避免的，那也就是尤努斯先生非常有卓見，用很多方法去突破這個事情，可是我想精神生活的均富，是可以做得到的。

林懷民和尤努斯看到台灣經濟的最大困境，希望從創業和精神提升，幫助這一代人，敢於夢想！
