Debate begins over who pays for damage to the Legislature (2014/04/08)

Students departing the Legislature will leave behind millions of NT dollars in damage to facilities and equipment at the Legislature. They will rely on donations to pay for much of the damage, though it is unclear who will pay if they do not collect enough money.

From the start of the student movement there has been a donation box on Jinan Road. But funds are spent daily on items like scaffolding and sound equipment. Despite the student movement running up a debt of around NT$2.5 million, this person believes the money has been well spent.

“I think the students are truly fighting for their future. It’s great.”

The students plan to pay for this debt using donations. But even more money is needed to cover repairs to the Legislature.

There is damage to tables and chairs, microphones, and other equipment. Estimated costs range from millions of NT dollars to over NT$100 million.

Those who are noble have the courage to accept responsibility for their actions. You can’t just cause damage and expect the people to foot the bill.

According to DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming, Speaker Wang Jin-pyng has a plan to solve this problem.

學生即將退出議場，但高達千萬的損害賠償，誰來扛。藍軍立委林德福認為，學生應該負責，不過民黨總召柯建銘表示，王金平有腹案。至於鐵定要學生負責的學運支出，雖然物資不斷湧入，捐款金額也不少，但整個算下來，赤字還有250萬。

從學運一開始，濟南路上的募款箱就已經設置，但棚架、還有議場內外的音響設備等，每天都在燒錢，到目前為止，赤字還有大約250萬，熱心民眾趕緊出錢幫忙。

學運的支出，打算靠募款解決，但更大筆的，還有立法院議場裡的設備。

桌椅、麥克風、受損嚴重的議事設備等，金額從數百萬到上億元，說法不一，所有的損壞賠償，誰來扛。

民進黨團總召柯建銘聲稱，立法院長王金平強調他有腹案，會處理此事。
